Troubleshooting

Fixes for shortcuts, startup, SmartScreen and more.

A shortcut says it is already in use

Another application owns that combination. Pick a different one in Settings → Shortcuts. Some launchers, clipboard managers and input-method switchers use Ctrl + Space.

Nothing appears when Windows starts

By design, TaskDock starts hidden in the tray when launched at startup. Click the tray icon or press your summon shortcut. To show the window at startup, change When launched at startup. The tray icon may also be under the ^ overflow in the taskbar.

The startup switch turns itself off

Windows can disable startup apps in Task Manager → Startup apps, or policy can block registration. TaskDock turns the switch back off and shows an error rather than pretending it worked. Enable TaskDock in Task Manager, then try again.

SmartScreen: "Windows protected your PC"

Unsigned builds trigger this. Choose More info → Run anyway if you trust where you downloaded the installer. Only run installers from the official download page.

The summon shortcut does not bring the window to the front

Windows limits which apps can take focus. TaskDock works around it, but a full-screen exclusive game or an elevated (administrator) window may still hold focus. Try the tray icon. If it keeps happening, report it with your Windows version.

The window is off-screen

TaskDock recovers windows that would be off-screen after a monitor change. If one is still lost, quit from the tray and start it again, or turn off Remember window position and restart.

The timer is wrong after sleep

It should not be: it is computed from timestamps. If you see a problem, note the planned length, when you started, and when the PC slept, and report it.

The database is damaged

Use the recovery screen's Start fresh, then restore a backup from backups\. See Data.

An import was rejected

The summary lists what was wrong (for example an unsupported file type or a missing title column). Nothing is changed when an import is rejected.

The installer will not run

Right-click the file → Properties → Unblock (if shown), then run again. On managed PCs, policy may block per-user installs; ask your administrator.

Reporting a bug

Include your TaskDock version (the About page in the sidebar), Windows version, what you expected, and what happened. Do not attach your database unless you are comfortable sharing its contents.
